FBISD Board Approves Principals For Two New Schools And Drabek Elementary

The Fort Bend BISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved three new campus principals at its last board meeting.

Joanna Dodson was named principal of Elementary #39, located at 3440 Lexington Blvd. in Missouri City and Mary Brewster was named principal of Elementary #43, 7400 Discovery Lane, in the Sienna Plantation area of Missouri City. Susan Cornelius was named as the new principal of Drabek Elementary, replacing Brewster as she moves to Elementary #43.

Elementary #39 will open for the 2008-`09 school year. The campus is currently serving Quail Valley Elementary students until their campus is rebuilt to open in August of this year. Elementary #43 is also slated to open for the upcoming school year.

Dodson has served all 22 years of her education career in Alief ISD. She taught English as a second language, first-grade, Title I and was a Science, All Content and Language Arts Specialist at five different elementary schools in Alief ISD. In 2000, she began her administrative career with the district when she was named Assistant Principal at Martin Elementary.

The following year, Dodson was selected as the Title I/Language Arts/Early Childhood Coordinator where she served for four years. Dodson was then named as the principal of Horn Elementary, a Title I campus, where she served for the past three years.

“Joanna Dodson is a dedicated and experienced leader, and will do a wonderful job as principal of Elementary #39,” said Dr. Susan Wey, FBISD assistant superintendent for elementary schools.

Dodson has a Master of Education degree in Mid-management from the University of Houston-Victoria and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Texas A&M University.

Brewster has served all 17 years of her education career in the Fort Bend ISD. She taught second, fourth and fifth grades for six years, before she was appointed as Assistant Principal of Sugar Mill Elementary in 1997. She also served as Assistant Principal at Sienna Crossing, Edgar Glover and Settler’s Way Elementary Schools before she was named as Principal of Edgar Glover Elementary in 2000. After serving as principal at Glover for two years, she became Principal of Rita Drabek Elementary, and has served there for the past six years.

“We are proud to have Mary Brewster as part of our leadership team in FBISD, and look forward to working with her in her new position as she opens the district’s 43rd elementary school,” said Dr. Marc Smith, FBISD assistant superintendent for elementary schools.

Brewster has a Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Texas Southern University. She also received her mid-management certification.

Cornelius comes to Fort Bend ISD from neighboring Lamar Consolidated ISD. She began her career as a classroom teacher in Fort Bend ISD where she taught for six years before she accepted a position as Assistant Principal of Campbell Elementary in Lamar CISD. She has served as the Principal of Smith Elementary for the past three years.

Cornelius has a Master of Education degree in Administration from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, with a minor in early childhood education, from Millersville University in Millersville, Penn.

“Susan Cornelius is a successful principal and we are proud to have her back in Fort Bend ISD in her new leadership role as principal of Rita Drabek Elementary School,” Smith said.
